    Additional:

*A soap opera, often referred to simply as a soap, is an ongoing, episodic work of usually dramatic genre, that is fictionally presented in serial format on radio or as television programming. The name soap opera stems from the original dramatic serials' broadcast on radio that had soap manufacturers, such as Dial Corporation, Procter & Gamble, Colgate-Palmolive and Lever Brothers, as sponsors and producers.

The first serial considered to be a "soap opera" was Painted Dreams, which debuted October 20, 1930 on Chicago's WGN. Early radio series such as Painted Dreams were broadcast in weekday daytime slots, usually five days a week, when most listeners would be housewives; thus the shows were aimed at and consumed by a predominantly female audience.
