    Church of the Rhine Mission (built in 1895) in Keetmanshoop. In the background, on the left side of the stamp, you can see a farm windmill (see fragment).

    The city of Keetmanshoop is the main city of the Karas region, in southern Namibia (formerly South West Africa). Located 500 kilometers south of the country's capital - Windhoek.

    In the XVIII century, near the modern Keetmanshoop, there was a Hottentot settlement. In 1866, German missionaries built their station here, and it is considered the year the city was founded. It was named after the German banker Johann Kitman, who financed the activities of the missionary society. Some buildings of the late XIX - early XX centuries, including the German missionary church, have been preserved in the city.
